Cards, Reflection, and the Journey Within

How do cards reflect your journey? How do they help guide you in your daily life? Do they predict what’s coming? How can they be useful to you?

How do cards reflect your journey? How do they help guide you in your daily life? Do they predict what’s coming? How can they be useful to you?

All great questions.

Let me attempt to answer them by sharing my 2022 journey with cards to date.

Quick recap – I did a new year reading for 2022 and created my vision board from that reading. Two major areas in the reading centered on developing a more personal spiritual journey, really coming to understand my beliefs in a Higher Power, including figuring out what to call it/him/her.  The second one is related to an ending that will bring sadness, relief, or both. My last couple of blogs centered on that area, with the work I am doing to say good-bye to Zelda.

Since my last blog, I received a call that my 92-year-old mother had fallen, possibly had a stroke, was hospitalized, was to have surgery to repair a hip and then was being sent home with hospice in the space of four days. Two of my siblings who live near me and I quicky decided to drive 10 hours to see her, expecting to have a final visit.  By time we arrived, she had begun to transition and was unable to communicate. I hardly recognized her – she was a shell of herself. The next day, she left us quietly and arrangements had been made so her departing the house was done within an hour. Then, the impending weather for the upcoming weekend was ominous with potential blizzard conditions at our homes. The following morning, we three got in the car and returned home, taking a longer route to stay away from the storm and New York City traffic on a Friday evening. We all arrived home, exhausted, numb, yet grateful to have taken the trip (it was the first time all seven of us had been together in 12 years – we are rather spread out).

Now this card may still be the relief when Zelda no longer has a strong influence over me, but the sadness surely must be my mother leaving this world. Her departure also has me being more reflective about heaven, the next world or spirit world. It definitely has been an inward time.

Today, I pulled three cards for a Sunday reading for my private Facebook group and began writing them up. As I did so, the message of these three cards became very comforting.

Higher Power.

All That Glitters.

Imagine.

My Higher Power is with me, keeping me safe throughout this journey of life, especially in the hardest, and saddest, times. I feel like this ongoing message is a reminder of my 2022 vision board.

It is a time of deep reflecting. Don’t be afraid to continue the reflection, the journey within. It may not be pretty in there but the work is necessary. Know that it is a safe journey.

Imagine tells me to focus on creation. What we imagine we can create. I have taken this literally as I decided to take up a completely hand sewn quilt this week and spend my evenings or television time patiently sewing, letting my thoughts wander, knowing that the end result will be magnificent and meaningful. The journey of the quilt will reflect the journey of my spirit this year.

And that is how cards speak to me. They give me space for reflection. They help me see patterns. They help me by giving me a frame of reference for my thoughts, my feelings, and give me some words for my journal. We haven’t moved too far into 2022, but already I see my vision board in action which gives me strength to keep consciously and deliberately moving through it.

I don’t pretend to predict my future with my card reading. I find they are best for reflection of where I’ve been, where I am and what I need to be aware of as I travel my road. No one wants to think about sadness, yet it does come. Ignoring it doesn’t make to go away. Paying attention to it, allowing it to be helps the healing.  That, to me, is the marvel of oracle card readings.

Footnotes: The cards I mentioned are from the Wisdom of the Oracle deck by Colette Baron-Reid, an amazing deck for one’s journey.
