When did you first learn that being busy meant being successful, a leader, or in control?
When did you learn that multitasking was essential to getting ahead?
And how long did it take before you felt the first signs of burnout?
Let’s shift our perspective for a moment—
Busyness is highly overrated.
Busyness keeps you from truly living.
I have a friend who never answers her phone. Texting is the only way to reach her. When she finally calls, her excuse is always the same: “I’ve just been so busy.”
At first, I felt insulted—was I really that low on her list of priorities? Over time, I began to wonder if this was her way of slowly ending our 30-year friendship.
I share this story because our obsession with busyness damages our relationships. We get so caught up in doing that we forget to make time to simply be.
The Power of Pausing
Resting, slowing down, and restoring yourself is deeply embedded in your Human Design blueprint. We are all meant to pause, to be still, to recharge.
If we don’t honor this, we set ourselves up for stress and burnout. Our bodies will always let us know when enough is enough.
I remember this lesson from my full-time job. I was always pushing—working hard to be an excellent employee and supervisor. But every so often, I’d wake up feeling…off. Not really sick, but definitely not well. My body was telling me: stop now, or you’ll regret it later.
On those days, I listened. I called out, rested, and did absolutely nothing. Without fail, a single day of rest was enough to reset my energy. I rarely got truly sick because I didn’t wait until my body forced me to stop.
If you know your Human Design, here are some pause-time tips for your type. If you don’t, see what resonates—and if you’d like to discover your type, I offer a free chart and report (link at the end!).
Projectors, Manifestors, and Reflectors – You Do Not Have Sustainable Energy
Stop trying to keep up with Generators. You’re not designed for that kind of constant output.
- Work, then rest. Your energy is meant to come in waves.
- Take breaks. Skipping lunch and powering through isn’t serving you.
- Leave work on time. If you have a 2-line in your profile, alone time is crucial.
- Prioritize quiet and reflection. You need space to process, reset, and regroup.
Generators and Manifesting Generators – Your Energy is Powerful, But Not Infinite
You thrive when you’re doing work you love. But even you have limits.
- Listen to your body. Working through sickness isn’t a badge of honor—you just spread germs.
- You don’t have to say yes to everything. Not every project is worth your time.
- Know your capacity. If you’re a Manifesting Generator, juggling multiple things is natural—but there’s still a limit. Choose wisely.
- Make time for joy. Don’t let obligations push aside what truly makes you happy.
So now I ask you: are you caught up in busyness or are you fully engaged with life?
Take a step back and ask yourself:
- Are you busy doing or truly living?
- Do you have enough pause time built into your days?
If not, schedule it—and honor it.
You can’t be good for anyone else if you aren’t good to yourself.
Give yourself permission to pause.
And just be.
